Some 20 years ago the French organisers of the Marne battle annual commemoration invited all regiments who were part of the British Expeditionary Force in 1914 - The Old Contemptibles - to join them.Only the Fusiliers replied and have gone ever since. All four of our antecedent regiments were part of the BEF and fought at Mons (where two Royal Fusiliers won the first two VC's of WW1) took part in the retreat from Mons then turned with our French allies and defeated the invading German Armies in the Marne battle. An outright victory was won. The French welcome us because our former comrades fought alongside them to save France.
The Fusilier party for this year is now being assembled and will include serving Fusiliers. Do you wish to be with us on this major event in the Association calendar? Wives/partners are welcome. Tell your friends. Likely cost is close to £300 per person room sharing which includes travel and channel crossing and four days B&B in France.
Apart from four meaningful ceremonies including remembering our former comrades who fell this event is very much a social event of comradeship. Based in Epernay in the glorious Champagne region of France it is hard not to have an enjoyable long weekend! Please do note that this is NOT a battlefield tour.
