5 FUSILIERS will celebrate St George’s Day 2024 whilst also exercising their freedom of Northumberland with a special church service and parade through the streets of Ashington on Saturday 20th April 2024.
A special parade will take place on Saturday 20 April in Ashington to celebrate St George's Day and commemorate the 350th anniversary of the Fifth of Foot, The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers.
A street renaming ceremony took place in Bedworth recently to honour Sergeant Simon Valentine of 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers who was killed whilst serving in Afghanistan in 2009.
Some 20 years ago the French organisers of the Marne battle annual commemoration invited all regiments who were part of the British Expeditionary Force in 1914 - The Old Contemptibles - to join them. Only the Fusiliers replied and have gone ever since. All four of our antecedent regiments were part of the BEF and fought at Mons.

Last weekend was a busy one for the Regiment with a St George's Day Parade in Morpeth on 22nd April and Gallipoli Commemorations in Bury on 23rd April. Crowds gathered to see representatives from 5 Fusiliers, Cadets and Veterans march through the streets of both towns.
